A little about our massaging
At Innovation for the Blind, we believe training blind or visually impaired individuals as massage therapists focuses on leveraging their heightened sense of touch and enhancing their sensory awareness. Through hands-on practice, tactile guides, and verbal instructions, they can learn techniques, anatomy, and how to assess muscle tension and stress.
The advantages of blind massage therapists include a superior ability to detect subtle changes in the body through touch, leading to more effective treatments. Their reliance on touch also fosters strong communication and empathy skills, creating a more holistic approach to healing. Additionally, offering this type of training increases employment opportunities for blind individuals and promotes a more inclusive workforce. Clients may appreciate the unique experience of working with therapists who rely on intuitive touch, making this practice beneficial for both the therapists and their clients.
A little about our coffee
At Refresh Barista, you can order an Americano, Cappucino or Latte, made by our visually impaired students, all studying under Joseph Matheatau, the first trained blind barista in South Africa.
Our delicious range of coffees is packaged by the visually impaired in collaboration with Beans for Africa, who are well known for their commitment to excellence.
Our range comprises:
Blindiana Range – a dark roast
Blindiana filter – a medium to dark filter roast
Blue mountain – a medium to mild blend
Mocha Java – a medium filter roast
For our freshly made coffees in Refresh we use the dark roast range, and our coffee beans are also for sale in Shoprite and Checkers in the Western Cape, West Coast and Garden Route, as well as at our shop at 126 Church Street in Worcester.
